Frequently Asked Questions Q: Can I perform multi-level queries using the front-end search engine? A: No. Under the current version, it is not possible to refine searches beyond a primary search level. Thus, one cannot search for values corresponding to California and WET (wetlands). Search engine-based queries are presently limited to all values for California across all beneficial use categories or for all wetland values across all locations. However, if you are familiar with Access, you can construct your own multi-criteria queries without use of the front-end search engine. The web-based version will have multi-level querying capabilities. Q: When will the web-based version be available? A: We hope to get the web-based version up and running by the end of 2002. The purpose of making the Access file version available to the public at this time is to gather comments on and evaluate the usefulness of the database. Once reviewer comments have been incorporated into the database and into the data gathering process, we plan on putting the completed database on-line. Q: I'm having difficulties getting Access to open the file. What can I do? A: Make sure you have downloaded the correct version (if running Microsoft Access 97 for Windows, use buvd97.zip or buvd2k.zip if running Access 2000 for Windows). The BUVD has been tested on both versions and seems to work fine. However, it is unreadable with earlier MS Office versions. You may also wish to check with Microsoft to see if there are any service packs or fixes for your version of Access. Q: Is there a version available for the Macintosh? A: No, there is no version that can be used on Macs at this time. However, the web-based version of the BUVD is expected to be usable by any platform through a web browser. Q: I downloaded the stand-alone version of the BUVD, but it does not work properly. Do you know why? A: If you are running any other Microsoft Office applications, there may be problems because certain DLLs may not have been loaded during installation of the BUVD because they already existed or were in use during the installation process. Without the proper DLLs, the stand-alone BUVD will not function properly. You may try reinstalling the BUVD after making sure you are not running any Microsoft Office programs. If you continue to have difficulties, e-mail us and we will try to find a solution.
